E mmy award winning artist Dean Haspiel created the Eisner Award nominated Billy Dogma, illustrated for HBO’s “Bored To Death,” is a Yaddo fellow, won “The 6th Anniversary Literary Death Match,” was a Master Artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, spoke about independent comix art at The Library of Congress, and teaches comic book storytelling.
Dean is a native New Yorker and he writes & draws superhero and semi-autobiographical comics, including: Spider-Man, Batman, X-men, The Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Godzilla, Mars Attacks, American Splendor, The Last Mortician (with Tim Hall), Michael Chabon’s The Escapist, Creepy (with Josh Simmons), and graphic novels with Harvey Pekar (The Quitter), Jonathan Ames (The Alcoholic), Inverna Lockpez (CUBA: My Revolution), and Stan Lee. Dean also helped pioneer personal webcomics with the invention of ACT-I-VATE, Next-Door Neighbor for SMITH Magazine, Street Code for DC Digital, and was the comix editor for Cousin Corinne’s REMINDER (where he collaborated with Jonathan Lethem).
